Sour Cherries

Prunus cerasus, the sour cherry, is native to Eastern Europe but is well established in North America. The fruit was popular with the Romans who spread the trees throughout Europe and England BC.

Walworth Valve

I don’t know what activities occupied this building after Walworth pulled out of South Greensburg. I am guessing it was sometime in the 1960s when they left for cheaper labor and better tax breaks.

Walworth Valve

My grandfather worked for Walworth Valve many years ago, and perhaps in this building—now long abandoned. This is in South Greensburg, Pennsylvania, firmly located in the rust belt.

Crossroad Storm Sequence Image 10 of 10

Finally the last of 10 images that make up this group. And finally it started to rain in earnest.

The entire group was made in less than four minutes as the storm swept in and unfolded over me. These exposures were made at the Crossroads on Friday, May 10 2013, between 6:24 and 6:28 PM.

Crossroad Storm Sequence Image 8 of 10

This is the eighth of 10 images that will make up this group and probably my favorite. The two dark diagonal bands that have been there from the beginning now dominate the sky.

Crossroad Storm Sequence Image 7 of 10

This is the seventh of 10 images that will make up this group. The whorl in the center has become a hole to blue sky beyond. While the clouds and turbulence are breaking up there are still those two dark diagonal bands that have been there from the beginning.

Crossroad Storm Sequence Image 6 of 10

This is the sixth of 10 images that will make up this group. The whorl in the center has dissipated but remnants remain. There is still plenty of turbulence.

Crossroad Storm Sequence Image 5 of 10

This is the fifth of 10 images that will make up this group. At about this point I realized I was watching a clash of two air masses right over me. Clouds were flying all over, not just from right to left. That whorl in the center of the frame formed and started rotating as I watched. For a minute I thought it might form a funnel.
