Just back from my recent trip to Western Pennsylvania and the Wilderness 50th celebration at the Crary Gallery in Warren. I simply can’t say enough about the kindness, warmth, and generosity of the folks associated with the gallery and the people of Warren in general. It was a very special visit.
This is a side view of the spillway of the Kinzua Dam on the Allegheny River, a short distance upriver from Warren. I have some pretty mixed feelings about dams in general, this one included, but they do present some interesting visual material. I have another image of this spillway that I will be posting next.
Now a little shameless self promotion: My four images will continue to be exhibited until the end of September along with many other fine images from the likes of Craig Blacklock, Clyde Butcher, Kevin Ebi, Scot Miller, David Muench, and a few other equally fine photographers. It has truly been an honor!
45mm Zeiss Planar CG, Sony a6000, Lr 5.6, Ps CS6. This vintage rangefinder lens and this camera are an outstanding combination!
North Branch of Patterson Creek in Greenland Gap, just above the falls. I made a similar image here in 2008, attached below.
75mm SMC Pentax-A 645, Nikon 800e, Lr5, Ps CS6.
From September 2008. Interesting comparison in that I think my work has become less abstract… less of a printmaker esthetic and more of a photographic presentation. Not that you could say that from just one image, but I can… because I know my work. At least at a certain level. But in other ways I probably am less informed than anyone. I do what feels right, intellect disengaged. It is about feelings, sensations, emotions, stirrings. There is no place for analytical thought in this process for me. That can happen later. Or not.
Sony R-1 (24-120mm Zeiss Vario-Sonnar), Aperture (v1?), Ps CS3.
There are probably several hiding in this very image!
50mm Zeiss Makro-Planar ZF.2, Nikon 800e, Lr5, Ps CS6.
This is a two frame panorama of Elakala Falls Number One. The files are from a trip last year with Robert Clark.
80-200mm Zeiss Vario-Sonnar CY, Nikon 800e, Lr5, Ps CS6.
Elakala Falls Number One revisited. Or at least the raw file has been revisited. And reworked. Here with Bob Clark this day. Shot in September of 2012. Conversion to sRGB color space in not at all linear and has reduced several hours of work to insignificance.
50mm Zeiss Makro-Planar ZF.2, Nikon 800e, Lr5, Ps CS6.
A detail of the falls. There is more off to the right. With Robert H Clark.
28-90mm Leica Vario-Elmarit ASPH, Nikon 800e, Lr5, Ps CS6.
Elakala #3? Shot from across the canyon. Blackwater Falls State Park.
300mm Mamiya-Sekor ULD 645, Nikon 800e, Lr4, Ps CS6.
Ask and you shall receive. With gratitude.
