Another of those shot across the Potomac shots. American sycamore, Plantanus occidentals. The trees are in the C & O Canal National Historical Park. I am in West Virginia.

My kind of chaos. Actually it might appear to be random, but it is not at all. This is another of those You can’t see it from here because it is too small images. The first thing this image said to me was MAKE A BIG PRINT AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY. Coming dear. This was a shot across the Potomac just a little way upstream of Knott Island.

Plantanus occidentalis, along the Potomac. There are some really massive trees along the Potomac— cottonwoods, silver maples, but mostly American sycamore, the most massive tree of the East. As big as these trees are now, they will get bigger.
It can be hard to convey scale in a photograph unless you have some universally recognized visual reference in the image, like a person. But then you have a person in the image and all that goes along with that. Not to mention that you have to have someone with you when you are out and about.

Plantanus occidentalis, one of my most favored subjects. This was along the C&O Canal. This is another of those images that really needs to be seen large, much larger than is possible here. Nothing special to report on the processing of this image. I look forward to making a platinum or gravure print of this one day. I hope you enjoy it!

I hope this works at this small size… not sure it does. I think mural size for this one.

Plantanus occidentalis, or American sycamore. I love the fields and woods of Appalachia this time of year.

Potomac river sycamore, Plantanus occidentalis. I would have probably framed this differently but I was shooting across the river and this is as tight as I could get. At some point I might crop some of the foreground, but I don’t like to crop. Virtually everything you see on my site is the full frame. Quality pixels are expensive and not cropping is a very good discipline.
