Moonrise at the Crossroads

CrossroadsMoonrise45_DSC6489

Moonrise at sunset… at the Crossroads.

The intersection of day and night, East and West (Ailanthus altissima), town and country, my life and yours… however fleeting. I am of course aware of the bluesman Robert Johnson and the myth of him “going down to the crossroads” to sell his soul to the devil in exchange for his remarkable ability to play. Believe me when I say I haven’t sold my soul to anyone. Crossroads has more to do with where I live and often photograph.

There are likely to be other variations of this image to come. Others I took, most horizontal – with this camera and with my little Sigma DP3 Merrill, also have a lot of potential.

90mm Zeiss Sonnar CG, Sony a6000, Lr 5.6, Ps CS6. This camera is an APS-C or “crop sensor” camera, meaning the sensor is smaller than a “full frame” camera sensor. Full frame is the size of a 35mm negative, while APS-C is about half that area. Just as with film, the larger the sensor the more information recorded. For landscape images more information means a lot. I bought this camera to photograph action… street photography, if you will. The camera is very fast. See the Identity Crisis photos, all taken with this camera. And I really love the Zeiss rangefinder lenses on it. I just thought I would see how it handled landscapes.
