Old Canaan Haw

50mm Zeiss Makro-Planar ZF.2

These craggy old hawthorns are everywhere in Canaan Valley. The lichen that forms on them is particularly difficult to shoot. I think there is some degree of fluorescence coupled with an odd reflectivity and color that makes it difficult to get just right. The reds of the wet November brush are helpful here. Is it my imagination that these lichens are getting heavier in recent years? Increasing CO2?
