Betula alleghaniensis and Fagus grandifolia. West Fork of the Greenbrier. 35-70mm Zeiss Vario-Sonnar CY, Sony a7R4, Lr C9, Ps CC21.
Fagus grandifolia. The richness and depth of textures in this and many of my images are only suggestions at this small size. Needs to be a decent size print!

Fagus grandifolia, the American beech, at dusk in Canaan Wildlife Refuge. Beech hold their leaves all winter, dropping them typically as the new buds begin to swell. The little forest of beech on the right might be seedlings from the adult but are more likely root sprouts. I don’t know why but beech in more stressful environments like Canaan and Dolly Sods tend to produce little mini-forests of root sprouts.
