Red Spruce on Dolly Sods
Piece rubens, our native spruce. This was a tough one and I’m not at all sure I have it yet. Maybe I’ll revisit it in a while if I have an idea about how to better present what it stirs in me.

Dolly Sods Revisited
This is an image from 2014 that I always thought had something special, but in spite of a number of attempts I never quite got it. I reworked it this morning. I think it is there. Time will tell.
These trees are small hawthorns, Crataegus SP, on Dolly Sods.

Rhododendron periclymenoides
Don’t ask me to pronounce the species name and I don’t know the common name. This is one of three azalea species I have seen growing on Dolly Sods, and not counting a few hybrids. Early June 2016.

Hawthorn, Dolly Sods Wilderness
This is a thornless hawthorn in front of a red maple and some red pines. I think this is another of those ya gotta see a big print images. Don’t see too many thornless haws in the wild.
