Iris?
I don’t know what this is. The leaves are a bit fleshy like an iris. There were perhaps 25 plants evident in this area of open shade near a spring creek but on dry karst. No sign of any flowering that might have occurred, but I know iris flower less frequently in the shade.

Thistle
I don’t know if this is our native thistle, the invasive Nigerian thistle, or one of the others.

Kalmia latifolia
Mountain laurel on North Fork Mountain, early June 2016. On the Allegheny Front at Dolly Sods, about 1000 feet higher, the mountain laurel is still in tiny buds. A post will come I’m a few days.

Rhododendron periclymenoides
Don’t ask me to pronounce the species name and I don’t know the common name. This is one of three azalea species I have seen growing on Dolly Sods, and not counting a few hybrids. Early June 2016.

Black Locust
Robinia pseudoacacia. The pea tree with heavenly fragrance.

Rosa carolinas? Rosa canina? Definitely not multiflora. Photographed at Finzel Swamp this morning.
