An environment of extremes here at 4000+ feet: oven hot when the sun is out in summer; bitter cold in winter; desiccated by the wind and heat; saturated by rain, fog, and snow; and blasted by the wind. It is a wonder that anything can grow here in these boulder fields. But it is rich with life–a garden spectacular!
