Shenandoah Panorama
I shot this last year about this time, and struggled with it on and off since. Now, finally, I am about ready to print it. It is a two frame panorama, final size at 360 ppi is 36 inches wide.
10/30: I couldn’t stop. Here is the revise, version 30 something. I AM PRINTING IT NOW. FULL SIZE. NO MORE EDITS!
This is the shot that convinced me that I better find something other than Canon lenses to shoot on my Canon body, hence the Pentax medium format and Carl Zeiss lenses that I use now. But as it turns out, the body itself is responsible for some of the problems—Canon’s now legendary quality control coupled with their crack service center in New Jersey. Now I’m convinced I better find another full frame camera manufacturer. Come on Sony, release an A950 that has live view! —my opinion based on my experience. Your milage might vary.
Two frames, 70-200mm Canon ƒ4L, Canon 5D Mk II, Raw Developer, Ps CS 3 and Ps CS 5.

Well, after printing full size I’m going back to the drawing board… er, computer. Can a lens be too sharp? Is sharpness as important in a lens in a digital age? Are there other qualities in lens design that should be getting more attention these days? How about the frequency of lens micro-contrast, meaning at what textural frequency should peak contrast occur? How about the relationship of lens to sensor… do some lens designs / focal lengths seem to work better with a given sensor than others? Are some lens problems maybe lens / sensor interaction problems?
